Thanks for taking on this topic, Brenda. All of your suggestions are logical. Nonetheless, four of your five suggestions require qualification. Some state corrections organizations frown on the listing of the state as a past employer. Few corrections employees will provide references, if contacted. Writing a "supplemental letter" may have value as an exercise in developing a clear explanation of the trouble in one's past but simply producing the letter, as opposed to being able to speak openly about past problems with the law, does less to establish a personal connection with the interviewer. Yes, one must stay encouraged when encountering difficulties in the quest for employment and career opportunities, but in the context of your article it offers nothing, in terms of practical strategies. Finally, very, very, few employers want to be known as "felon friendly." That's usually not very good for their business.

That said, I commend you for attempting to speak a word of encouragement to those with criminal backgrounds. I served a significant period of time in prison. You can view my ongoing chronicle of my reentry experience at www.reentryjournal.blogspot.com.

This article is great and your advice is very precise. When I attend career fairs for my company; candidates must apply on line to be considered for a position. Also, a lot of times we don't have positions available but we want our brand in the community.

I would like to use the chance of saying thanks to you for the professional instruction I have constantly enjoyed checking out your site. I am looking forward to the commencement of my school research and the entire preparation would never have been complete without visiting your blog. If I may be of any assistance to others, I will be ready to help via what I have discovered from here.
